Adam Barnes

Teacher of Design Technology  & Art

Adam spent his early working life as a jeweler and product designer in London before taking up teaching design and technology in schools in Sheffield, England, his home town. He did this after completing his BA at Camberwell college London, Design MA at the London school of furniture and PGCSE at Sheffield Hallam University. When not teaching he lives in Klong Wan, Thailand, with his wife and daughter where they love to work in their garden and enjoy the wildlife and local cultures.

Adam is a keen gardener, cook, musician, maker of things and artist. He enjoys reading, drama and music. He has played Saxophone since school and in recent years he has taken up the piano. He has worked internationally since leaving the UK in 2010, recently working in Oman at the Sultans school helping establish a new design teaching facility and teaching IGCSE and IB diploma design courses. Prior to that he taught in Bangkok, Thailand, at KIS, teaching MYP Art, Design and Science and in India at Kings College Rohtak as Head of boarding alongside teaching ICT and Computer Science IGCSE. 

His earlier international experience was at UISG China, a leading IB school where he was head of Design for five years, he later taught design at the European school in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. His first international post was at Cempaka Schools in Malaysia. He enjoys helping students develop their design and art projects across all years and enjoys working with a wide range of materials and technologies.
