Play in Young Children

Despite the fact that French is a new subject at Repton this year, 5 students took their IGCSE speaking examination last week. Two of them are Repton students and 3 are independent candidates. Taking a speaking examination is always a stressful time for students as the prospect of being 1 to 1 with the teacher and being recorded adds to the pressure.

Preparation is always key, as well as regular practice. At Repton, we start mini speaking examinations at regular intervals from Year 7 so that the students are used to both the format and the stress of the real examination when they reach the IGCSE programme.

At Key stage 3, students can already sustain mini conversations about set topics such as introducing themselves, what they like and don't like, where they live, what sports they do, etc... This is a great beginning and the students will be able to build on the skills acquired this year to develop their answers further in the future.
