Henry 'Bunny' Austin

Until Andrew Murray, in 2012, Bunny Austin was the last British man to reach the finals of the Wimbledon tennis championships. Among his many

achievements in the game of tennis, he is also remembered as the first tennis player to wear shorts at Wimbledon!

This was not his only contribution however, as he also pioneered the design of the modern tennis racket allowing for more aerodynamic movement – at the time this was mocked in the press as they said it looked like a snow shoe!
