Harold Abrahams CBE

Harold Abrahams, CBE, was a British track and field athlete. He was Olympic champion in 1924 in the 100 metres sprint and his victory was seen by many as a triumph over prejudice. Two days later he won silver in the 200 metres. The story of Abrahams Olympic gold medal is depicted in the 1981 movie “Chariots of Fire”. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
