Basil Rathbone

Basil Rathbone was an English actor who rose to prominence in United Kingdom as a Shakespearean stage actor and then went on to appear in more than 70 films.

Rathbone frequently portrayed villains but his most famous role was that of Sherlock Holmes in 14 Hollywood films made between 1939 and 1946.

His career included roles on Broadway and also television work. He was nominated for two Academy Awards and is honoured with three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
