The learners in Repton’s Mandarin Native class have come a long way since they started the semester. I am very proud of each and every one of them for putting in their best efforts. In this semester, we focused on improving their word recognition and speaking competencies across all levels, allowing each one to make progress at their own pace.

Learning is only meaningful when it is fun and interactive. The learners are provided with ample opportunities to interact with their friends, working together on task-based activities. Collaboration and teamwork is much emphasized not only to promote effective learning but also to allow the learners to gain social skills and empathy. Most of all, they have a chance to apply the language. I hope to show our young minds that acquiring a language lies in the ability to apply the language in daily life.

It is interesting to watch the FS2 and, Year 1 to Year 6 summoning their courage to stand in front of the class, presenting in the forms of self-introduction, skits, role-play or sing-along. They put in their best, having the confidence that they can excel, is the best encouragement to both teacher and students. I have much memorable moments with them and hope that they continue to challenge themselves in the next semester with more writing and improved reading.
