The House System at Repton International School plays an integral part of our school’s pastoral care provision. Pupils have the opportunity to connect with children from other classes and year groups. It nurtures a healthy competitive school spirit by encouraging pupils to participate in a wide range of competitive activities including sports, art, debating and music. Pupils can enjoy a number of team building exercises through a wide range of events held throughout the school year.

There are currently four Houses at Repton International School, mirroring that of the Houses at Repton United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates.

House meetings with the entire House - comprised of pupils and staff - are held regularly, and are used to congratulate the achievements of House members, prepare for competitions or arrange school-wide duties on a rotational basis. Additionally, pupils are encouraged to seek support from their fellow Housemates and Form Tutors if they have any worries or concerns.
Pastoral and Academic Significance
The House system is interwoven into the pastoral and academic lives of the pupils, providing a platform for moral, spiritual and intellectual growth. It is an essential element of the pastoral life at Repton International School and guidance from the House group helps individuals develop qualities and competencies that are integral to our aims. Furthermore, it provides a communication network for information to be easily disseminated.

To support pupils in their academic endeavours, an academic Form Tutor system is embedded into each House. House staff monitor, encourage and support the academic progress of the pupils in their House, and the small group sizes along with continuity throughout the years, fosters a strong, effective and friendly relationship between the pupil and tutor.
Why House?
The term 'House' is applied, as historically boarding pupils lived in actual Houses at both Repton United Kingdom and Repton Dubai. The House is where pupils become part of a small school family - a home away from home.
A Sense of Belonging
The concept of the school House system has become more familiar since J.K Rowling’s pop culture phenomenon, Harry Potter. The attachments and loyalties to the House, described by J.K Rowling, are equally as apparent in our Repton Houses. Indeed, so significant is a Repton pupil’s House that when alumni meet one another, oftentimes the first question asked is, “What House were you?”. That sense of camaraderie and identity is part of what Repton is developing in all of its schools. Therefore, the House acts as their family whilst in the School – the place where enduring relationships with peers and members of staff are born.
Developing Leadership and Responsibility
Each House is led by the Form Tutor, who in turn are supported by the staff in the House. However, within the House there are important roles to be played by the elected House Captains. House Captains are chosen by their peers and work closely alongside the Form Tutors and the House Competition Coordinator in organising the House. These positions are highly regarded and carry a great deal of responsibility. House Captains are supported by House Prefects who are selected for leadership duties around the school. The esteemed role of House Prefect is warded to pupils who set a positive example to others and can be relied upon to uphold Repton values.
School Uniform
As a part of the school uniform, pupils are expected to wear their House shirts for sporting competitions, as well as occasionally for PE and Games lessons. House ties are highly coveted and worn with pride, awarded to pupils for their service, and a select number of badges are issues by each House in recognition of achievements.
House Events
Oftentimes, the co-curricular elements of school are driven through the House system, which given the more intimate circumstances, can lead to raised confidence,competitiveness and aspirations. Throughout the course of the year, co-curricular activities provide the basis for a number of House events, including;

  • House Point competition – awarded each term and then annually to champion House
  • Inter-House Sports competitions such as basketball, badminton, football etc.
  • Sports Day – athletics
  • Inter-House Swimming gala
  • The ‘House Shout’ singing and performance competition
  • House music events
  • Charity events
The Role of Parents
When your child joins a House, so do you! Siblings are almost always assigned to the same House and parents are encouraged to fully engage with and support their child’s House. As with all school events, your support is welcome.

As part of our approach to a well-rounded education, Repton International School in Malaysia also believes in cultivating an engaging the artistic strengths in pupils, as well as developing their athletic capabilities.
