Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was a British novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, and fighter pilot.

Dahl served in the Royal Air Force during World War II, in which he became a flying ace and intelligence officer, rising to the rank of Acting wing commander. He rose to prominence in the 1940s with works for both children and adults and became one of the world's best-selling authors. He has been referred to as "one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century". His works include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, Matilda, The Twits, The Witches and James, and the Giant Peach among many others.

Dahl boarded at Repton, from 1930 to 1934. In his autobiographical novel Boy, Dahl writes about Repton, recalling how he was chosen as captain of the squash team and of his days spent riding his motorbike through the village. Roald Dahl is part of Repton School's extraordinary and fine literary heritage and an example of a great Repton School all-rounder: during his time at Repton Dahl played squash, served as the Fives captain, and was appointed to the role of perfect.
