Year 4 Learning To Tell The Time

In the last week before going back to distance learning, Year4 had been working on telling time. This is an important skill which the students will use for the rest of their lives.  Although some math concepts are straightforward, telling time can be tricky.

First, we re-capped the knowledge of the clock and key vocabulary.During practical activities, children interacted with the clock, identified different parts and named them using the correct terminology such as clock face, hour hand, minute hand, digital and analogue.

Once everyone was secure in telling time to the hour, we moved on to telling time to half an hour and beyond. Children found counting up and down in 5’s to be very helpful when telling time to the minute. They had heaps of fun working with different partners setting tasks for each other and solving them using the clocks.
