Students Learning About Chinese Food Culture

Year 8 Mandarin Intermediate students is learning about Chinese Food in their topics. The learning objectives included understand the culture of Chinese Foods, Chinese dining etiquette and cooking methods of Chinese Foods.

We have explored various activities in this topics as below:

1) Chinese foods tasting ~ I bought the Chinese breakfast foods ( deep-fried twisted dough sticks, fried new year cake, fried pancake with different favour, fried spring rolls ). One of our Korean students who never taste all these foods before felt it was an interesting food tasting activities

2) Role play – Shared your daily meal to your peers through role-play activities. Students expressed and shared own experiences to the peers to enhance their communication skills

3) Usage of grammar structure – Through touch the object , students need to describe what the object and guess what is it. Students were able to use the accurate grammar structure in this activities.

4) Creative Chinese Food- Students create one of the Chinese Food through play–doh and let the others guess the food name of their masterpiece.

In conclusion, students are engaged well to the topic. They showed their knowledge, understanding, enthusiasm and curiosity toward the learning.
